AutoplaySpectacular: 10x MGMT Live

In a couple of days, MGMT's fourth album will be released. According to the band, 'Little Dark Age' contains more happy songs than its predecessors. MGMT is most known from it's debut album 'Oracular Spectacular'. How many songs do you know by these Americans? Fasten your seatbelts, here are the 10 best live performances by MGMT!

10. Kids @ Glastonbury Festival, 2014

Let's start with the obvious one: Kids. It's probably MGMT's most popular and most known song all over the world. The song was part of 'Oracular Spectacular' which was released at the end of 2007. With a debut album like that, MGMT's carreer took of like a rocket.

9. Siberian Breaks @ KCRW, 2010

MGMT's second album 'Congratulations' contains less synth-pop than their debut. It's a more psychedelic record with more guitars and less synths.

8. It's Working @ Glastonbury, 2010

'It's Working' is the opening track of 'Congratulations'. It's one of the few tracks on the album that has been road-tested live.

7. Weekend Wars @ McCarren Pool Party, 2008

Weekend Wars was featured on MGMT's debut and played an important role in the promotion of the album. In Juni 2007, the single was given away in summer issues of a free Norwegian magazine. The CDs could be picked up in all big shopping malls in Stockholm as well.

6. The Youth @ Lowlands, 2008

Most MGMT songs are written by Andrew VanWyngarden, but 'The Youth' was collaboration with band member Ben Goldwasser.

5. Time To Pretend @ Jools Holland, 2008

Another song from debut album 'Oracular Spectacular'. One of the critics reviewing the album described it as "a college dorm experiment gone horribly right".

4. Alien Days @ KCRW, 2014

'Alien Days' was the first single of MGMT's third album called 'MGMT'. Andrew VanWyngarden describes the song as "a parasitic alien in your head, controlling things".

3. Little Dark Age @ Neo Magazin Royale In Concert, 2018

It's not always easy to find a live recording of brand new songs, but MGMT has no intention to keep 'Little Dark Age' a secret until it's release in a couple of days. This fourth record leans towards their first work: again more synths and pop-sound. The song was described as "dark, but only a little, and the vibe feels appropriate for where they are now: older, and without office jobs, but recognizant of what’s still gone wrong".

2. Your Life Is A Lie @ David Letterman, 2013

"Your Life Is A Lie was never meant to be directed at our fans or anybody in particular. What it's meant for more is to be utilized as a kind of weapon that you can direct towards whoever you want and it's supposed to be an empowering song", explains the band. It would become the most succesful song on third album 'MGMT'.

1. Electric Feel @ Glastonbury Festival, 2010

If there was a definition of the perfect summer tune, 'Electric Feel' would come pretty close. This unstrained, relaxed song is perfect for a hot afternoon at Glastonbury for example. If you want to experience this feeling yourself, we recommend you chekc them out at Rock Werchter on July 7.

The internet is filled to the brim with performances by various artists and bands. Unfortunately, the best live performances are often shadowed by mobile phone recordings with loud shouting audiences in the background. In Autoplay we put the best live performances by an artist in one playlist. So put an end to going through thousands of videos on Youtube; all you need is an update from the Autoplay-list.
