We need to talk about ‘Big Little Lies’. Not just because the series is amazing, but have you heard the enormous amount of great music played in every episode? Exactly! Here’s ten of our favorite songs from the series.
#10. Michael Kiwanuka – Cold Little Heart
If you’re not persuaded by the story line itself, you will be, because Michael Kiwanka’s ‘Cold Little Heart’ is the theme song for the series. The song will never be the same after watching Big Little Lies.
#9. Charles Bradley – Heartaches And Pain ft. Menahan Street Band
In Big Little Lies we follow the families around a bunch of six year olds. One of those six year olds is Chloe, daughter of Madeline (played by Reese Witherspoon). Chloe’s music taste is incredible. Charles Bradleys ‘Heartaches And Pain’ is one of the songs on her playlist. Reminder: she is six!
#8. Fleetwood Mac – Dreams
See yourself going on a roadtrip in a cabrio while the wind is blowing through your hair? This is one of the best roadtrip songs, if we might say so. Well, in Big Little Lies roadtrips are a little different. In this scene, the moms take their children to see Disney On Ice. And because they’re rich, why not take the limo?
#7. Agnes Obel – September Song
Even though ‘Cold Little Heart’ by Michael Kiwanuka is the official theme song of Big Little Lies, ‘September Song’ by Anges Obel is a recurring thing in the series. Maybe it’s because it’s instrumental and it fits with a lot of scenes! Even if that is the case, the producers only used the song when necessary.
#6. Elvis Presley – One Night
Big Little Lies evolves around one night: the big benefit. Someone dies that night, but you won’t find out who, why and how until the last episode. The theme of the benefit is Elvis Presley and Audrey Hepburn, so there’s a lot of Elvis songs in these series. Love it!
#5. Villagers – Nothing Arrived
It’s all drama and tension in Big Little Lies. Who’s cheating? Who is assaulting his wife? Who is secretly in love with someone else? ‘Nothing Arrived’ by Villagers is melancholic and fits so well with the scene (we won’t spoil, go watch it yourself!).
#4. The Temptations – Papa Was A Rolling Stone
As you can see, Big Little Lies loves the golden oldies! Just like #9 of this list, six year old Chloe played this song while dancing in the living room with her friend Ziggy.
#3. Sade – Cherish The Day
Not everyone in Big Little Lies has great music knowledge. When at a dinner with her ex-husband Nathan (James Tupper) and his new wife Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz), Madeline (Reese Witherspoon) says she likes this song a lot and asks if this is sung by Adele. Really. Adele.
#2. Zoë Kravitz – Don’t (Elvis Presley cover)
The song was never actually released in this version, but it had to be in this list. Bonnie, played by Zoë Kravitz, sings this song at the benefit before everything goes wrong.
#1. Ituana – You Can’t Always Get What You Want (Rolling Stones cover)
We’re glad they chose this cover as last song in the series. We love the original (duh) but it doesn’t fit the scene. This cover by Ituana does fit perfectly! If you haven’t seen Big Little Lies, please do. You won’t be disappointed. Plus: season 2 is in the making, so you will be ready to watch that too! Can’t get enough of this amazing soundtrack?
