The popular sitcom Friends became an instant TV-hit when it first aired in 1994. In Friends we follow the lives of Rachel, Ross, Chandler, Monica, Phoebe and Joey in New York City. Here are the top 10 songs you might know from Friends and the complete soundtrack!

#10. Lionel Richie & Diana Ross – Endless Love

Phoebe and Chandler sing a heartfelt duet of ‘Endless Love’ after Chandler breaks up with Janice (for the tenth time).

#9. Village People – YMCA

Monica reluctantly accepts a job offer from the Moondance Diner. Every time a customer puts money in the jukebox, the staff has to dance on the bar, much to Monica’s dismay. But Chandler, Joey, Ross, Phoebe and Rachel love to see Monica dance on the Village People’s classic ‘YMCA’.

#8. U2 – With Or Without You

Ross and Rachel were so close to getting together, but then Ross messes things up. Rachel won’t talk to him and Ross decides to call a radio station to request the well-known U2 song to say sorry to Rachel.

#7. David Bowie – Space Oddity

The Friends’ writers were probably big Bowie fans, because ‘Space Oddity’ is not sung once, but twice on the show! Joey sings the song for Phoebe when they are driving from Las Vegas back to New York and filmes himself while singing it and the video accidentally pops up when the group of Friends are watching a recording from one of Joey’s acting performances.

#6. The Tokens – The Lion Sleeps Tonight

Ross is a bit lonely after he divorced his first wife Carol and decides to adopt a monkey named Marcel. Marcel soon learns how to operate the CD player and often turns on the device to play his favourite song ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’.

#5. Eric Carmen – All By Myself

Break-ups are hard and the break-up between best friends Joey and Chandler was hard for both of them. Joey decides to move out after the roommates had a fight, but immediately regrets his decision and misses his best friend. The sad song ‘All By Myself’ fits the mood perfectly.

#4. Lipps Inc. – Funky Town

You have to dance when ‘Funky Town’ comes along! The song is played in a flashback scene where Monica and Rachel are dancing at Ross’ college party.

#3. Sir Mix-A-Lot – Baby Got Back

‘Baby Got Back’ became the second best-selling song in the United States in 1992, behind ‘I Will Always Love You’ from Whitney Houston. It’s a slighty inappropriate song to play for your baby, but all is allowed when it makes them laugh!

#2. Loretta – The Trouble With Boys

Monica and Ross Geller really want to get picked to dance on a dance platform on the Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve show, but they are ignored by the producers. They decide to give it one more shot and perform their choreography The Routine! So, do you need to impress your boss or your crush? NOBODY can resist The Routine!

#1. The Rembrandts – I’ll Be There For You

No introductions needed, the F.R.I.E.N.D.S theme song is probably as famous as the TV show itself. Producer Kevin Bright was a huge fan of The Rembrandts and asked them to write a song. During the pilot R.E.M.’s ‘Shiny Happy People’ was used for the opening credits, but after the other producers heard ‘I’ll Be There For You’ they were sold.

Hopping bonus: the ultimate Phoebe Buffay compilation

The honourable mention: the very talented singer songwriter and guitar virtuoso Phoebe Buffay. Phoebe used to ‘entertain’ the people in the local coffee shop Central Perk with classics like ‘Smelly Cat’, ‘Little Black Curly Hair’ and ‘The Holiday Song’. Here’s a compilation of all her songs!
