On May 11, Rita Ora, Cardi B, Charlie XCX, and Bebe Rexha delivered a new song called “Girls”. Now the song is being criticized because people believe the song belittles same-sex relationships.

One of the reasons why people criticize the song is because of the line  “Sometimes, I just wanna kiss girls, red wine, I just wanna kiss girls.” that is used in the chorus. The track has received backlash from artists such as Hayley Kiyoko and Kehlani. Kiyoko wrote that she doesn’t “need to drink wine to kiss girls” to know that she’s loved women all her life, and Kehlani calls the lyrics “harmful”.

Rita Ora has already responded to all the backlash, saying: “‘Girls’ was written to represent my truth and is an accurate account of a very real and honest experience in my life,” she wrote. “I have had romantic relationships with women and men throughout my life and this is my personal journey. She then continues with: “I am sorry how I expressed myself in my song has hurt anyone”, and also adding “I would never intentionally cause harm to other LGBTQ+ people or anyone.”
