Pixies are an American alternative rock band group Boston. In 1986 the band was founded by lead singer and guitarist Black Francis (real name Charles Thompson) and lead guitarist Joey Santiago. Via an advertisement in the Boston Phoenix bassist and singer Kim Deal joins the group. David Lovering is the drummer of Pixies. The rumor goes that Joey Santiago chose the name of the quartet after randomly browsing a dictionary.
The style of Pixies is described as an innovative combination of punk, indie and surf rock. Their sound is characterized by razor-sharp guitar parts, extreme loud-soft-loud dynamics and cryptic lyrics. In grunge and indie circles in particular, they are called one of the most influential alternative rock groups of the 1980s, although their sales figures say something else.
Sjors de Vries is our guest in the Fan Podcast about Pixies. He discovered the band in the nineties. As he is a musician himself, he told us in detail how good this band was with their musical arrangements and sound and how important the band was for the alternative rock scene.
