Sadly, Don Broco finished their European tour. But no worries, this summer you can also find the band on several festivals. For example at the last edition of the Vans Warped Tour in America, and Reading and Leeds festival. This is the perfect opportunity to get to know the band over a cup of coffee. Let us please introduce: Don Broco.
Don Broco has been a band for a very long time. Before they went to university in 2008, Rob Damiani, Simon Delaney, Luke Rayner and Matt Donnelly already were together. While they attended Bedford Modern School, they played their first couple of gigs. It wasn’t until after studying at the University of Nottingham that they agreed in becoming an actual band. There was a process with coming up with a band name. One of the options was “Club Sex”, but they didn’t find it suitable. They also came up with “Don Loco”, and this was eventually changed into “Broco”. The reason? When guitarist Simon Delaney broke his wrist in a football accident, someone made a joke about him being “Don Broco”. Don Broco first toured the country in November 2008 and played in cities such as Leeds, Birmingham and Manchester.
#2 Big Fat Smile
They released their first EP Big Fat Smile on 14 February 2011. After the release, the band’s career really kicked off. They played their own headline tour again in the United Kingdom in May 2011, and then summer even had to come. They played the biggest festivals in the summer of 2011 in the United Kingdom. One of the bands biggest supporters from early on is the band Enter Shikari and they played a bunch of shows with them. Besides that, they also played shows with bands like Lower Than Atlantis and We Are The Ocean.
Begin 2012, the band went on a tour with Four Year Strong, but there was a change going on in the band around this time as well. Right before the release of their debut album Priorities, bassist Luke Rayner left the band. Luckily, there was exciting news as well. In March 2012 they signed a record deal with Search and Destroy records, and the band’s first single of their debut album was released in May. The album would be released later that year on August 13 and they found a new bassist: Tom Doyle.
2014 would be the year of writing new material for an upcoming album and a headline tour after its release. But in the meantime they played a lot of shows with big bands such as You me At Six in 2014. On November 23, 2014, the first single from their new album came out. The song is titled “Money Power Fame” and it premiered on BBC Radio 1. The album Automatic itself was released on the 7th of August 2015. In April that same year they were the support act of Bring Me The Horizon during their European leg of their tour, and they also signed a new record deal with SharpTone Records.
The run up to the release of their latest album Technology was quite long. Don Broco released the single “Everybody” in July 2016, while the album wouldn’t be released until 2 February 2018. They released five singles for their third album. Meanwhile in 2018, they’ve been playing a lot of shows. They sold out most of their headline shows in Ireland and the UK and had much success during their shows in Europe. In 2017 they played their biggest show to date at the Alexandra Palaca in London. Next up: America!
