Every Ascension Day, We Speak Music honours the musicians who passed away in the last year. This week our visitors were able to vote on their favourite songs. The result is a wonderful playlist full of the best music that will live on forever.
Linkin Park‘s ‘In The End‘ was voted as the most memorable track by musicians that are no longer with us since the past year. Frontman Chester Bennington passed away on July 20th 2017, shocking the world. Other entries by his band can be found at #15 (‘Numb‘), #19 (‘What I’ve Done‘) en #36 (‘Breaking The Habit‘).
Just below Linkin Park, Avicii’s breakthrough single ‘Levels‘ can be found. The 2013 song was the start of Tim Bergling’s career, eventually leading up to dozens of chart topping singles, among which ‘Wake Me Up‘ (#26), ‘Waiting For Love‘ (#27) and ‘Hey Brother‘ (#28). The super star dj passed away on April 20, aged only 28.
The top 3 is completed by ‘Linger‘ by The Cranberries. Singer Dolores O’Riordan sadly is no longer with us, but this song will remind us of her forever. ‘Linger’ is a song about Dolores’ feelings following the breakup with her first boyfriend, a soldier who broke her heart. She said the song is about “the way I reacted to infatuation.”
